This morning, our first campers of the summer put canoes in the Seagull River and paddled off on their first trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Superior Hiking Trail! Spirits were high, and we could feel a sense of excitement in the air!
Each cabin group is going on a two-night/three-day trip (returning Friday afternoon) together to bond as a cabin. Read more about each cabin trip and follow their group throughout the wilderness via their satellite pings!
TOULES CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Wilderness Camp Counselors, Hero (right) and Waldo (left).
The young Toules adventurers will be enjoying a scenic paddle into our very own Gulf and Romance lakes after hiking to the north end of Birchwood’s property. After enjoying a day of paddling, they will set up tents around our fire ring on Birchwood property on Gulf Lake, a twenty-minute hike from camp. From there, they will base camp and enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, swimming, and chilling in hammocks.

Avant Cabin is paddling into the beautiful Seagull Lake directly from camp. They plan to reach Miles Island today, where they will camp tonight before moving to 3 Mile Island tomorrow and set up camp in a new spot. There is a lot to see on Seagull Lake, including the Little Palisades overlook (a great lunch spot) and home to 300-year-old cedar trees!

Love all the pics and reading about each cabin!!! Keep up the good work with keeping everyone in the Birchwood loop!
My grandson, Nathan, is in Summit Cabin and I hope that everyone is having a fantastic adventure. City kids back in the day didn’t get these types of opportunities. I hope Nathan is having the time of his life!
