This morning, a new session of 46 campers put canoes in the Seagull River and paddled off on their first trips of the summer into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness!

Each cabin group is going on a two-night/three-day trip (returning Friday afternoon) together to bond as a cabin group. Read more about each cabin trip and follow their group throughout the wilderness via their satellite pings!

TOULES CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Wilderness Camp Counselors, Duke (right), and Veto (left).

The young Toules adventurers will be enjoying a scenic paddle into our very own Gulf and Romance lakes after hiking to the north end of Birchwood’s property. After enjoying a day of paddling, they will camp in our huge canvas wall tent that sits permanently on Migizi Ridge, a twenty-minute hike from camp. From there, they will base camp!

AVANT CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Counselor, Nairo (back left) and co-counselor Hemi (back middle).

These boys are going to paddle into Sagananga Lake to shop around for the perfect blueberry patches (which are going crazy right now!), do some base camping, and perhaps check out Sag Falls. Berries, base camping, and waterfalls – the essence of summer fun!

RAVEN CABIN

This trip is led by co-counselors Curby (back right) and Frosty (back left).

Raven is heading into Seagull Lake to enjoy the many islands and beautiful vistas. They have a day paddle planned into the beautiful Rog Lake and back, which we can’t wait to hear all about upon their return!

FAR + AWAY CABIN

These adventurers are led by co-counselors Hero (back left) and Nemo (under the canoe)!

Far + Away Cabin has been calling this trip “Fishing Far + Away” because they know of some super secret fishing spots up on Lake Saganaga! They’re ready to catch some monsters and enjoy two nights of base camping.

BEAR CABIN

Bear Cabin (rawr!) is led by counselors Grylls (left) and Remy (right)!

The Bear Boys will be running the Granite River from Gunflint Lake all the way back to camp, which is a historical and classic trip in this area of the BWCA! They’ll also be celebrating camper Emmett’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Emmett!

SHANG CABIN

Team Shang is led by veteran counselor Flash (front middle) and Ocho (back right)!

The Shang boys will be enjoying a scenic paddle deep into the infamous Seagull Lake to climb the Little Palisades. If you’ve never heard of the Little Palisades, take a look at the photo below! This photo was taken from the top of Little Palisades. This is a spot we frequently rock-climb, hike, and have lunch with campers throughout the summer.

SUMMIT CABIN

Our senior leaders are guided by counselors Nacho (back row, second from left) and Fresco (front left)!

These gents are headed to the north shore of Lake Superior where they’ll hike the Superior Hiking Trail! They will begin at Tettegouche State Park, which is home to some of the most beautiful and dramatic cliffs at the water’s edge.
