This week we have some big wilderness trips in motion! Each camper had the opportunity to choose which of the five trips they wanted to sign up for. The first trip left on Monday and the fourth trip left this morning (Wednesday). Everybody will return on Friday afternoon to share their tales from the trails but we won’t leave you hanging that long! Keep reading to discover which adventures our Birchwood boys have set out for this week.

Canadian Fishing – 5-Day Trip

This trip is led by Birchwood counselors, Frosty (right) and Nairo (left), with Senior Leadership Campers – Brooks (back left), Mason (back middle), Grant (back right), and Simon (between Mason and Grant).

This trip is quickly becoming a favorite among our campers who are nuts about fishing after hearing previous tales of catching monster fish and eating the catch-of-the-day for supper each night! These gents will paddle several lakes of the Crownlands in hopes of catching the big one!

Gooseberry Hiking – 4-Day Trip

This trip is led by counselors Nacho (right), Duke (left), and Veto (second from left).

They are headed to the north shore of Lake Superior to begin hiking a portion of the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT)! The section they’ll discover will begin near Gooseberry Falls and end at Tettegouche State Park! This section of the SHT offers expansive views of Lake Superiors and numerous roaring waterfalls!

East Bearskin Expedition – 4-Day Trip

This trip is led by co-counselors Hero (laying on the left) and Flash (laying on the right), with Senior Leadership Campers – Shea (pointing to the sky at the back) and Quinn (pretending to scream on the right).

These ambitious campers are testing out a route that is new to Birchwood, beginning at East Bearskin. They’ll be exploring some lakes where no Birchwood boy has gone and we cannot wait to hear about it upon their return this Friday!

Seagull Climb + Fish – 4-Day Trip

This group is guided by co-counselors Remy (left) and Ocho (right).

The climbing group will be enjoying a scenic paddle deep into the infamous Seagull Lake to climb the Little Palisades. If you’ve never heard of the Little Palisades, take a look at the photo below! This photo was taken from the top of Little Palisades. This is a spot we frequently rock-climb, hike, and have lunch with campers throughout the summer.

On top of climbing, this group of campers plans to fish until they can’t fish anymore! Perhaps they’ll replace their Spam with fresh-caught trout? We can’t wait to hear all about it!

Morgan Lake – 3-Day Trip

This group is guided by Hemi (left) and Ghost (second from right), with Senior Leadership Campers -Ryan (left), Vail (second from left), Aidan (third from left), and Rami (center).

These gents have fishing poles and tackle boxes at the ready for this 3-day fishing excursion! They’ll be dropped off at the Morgan Lake entry point with the aim to end at Poplar Lake, fishing all along the way!
