This morning, our first campers of the summer put canoes in the Seagull River and paddled off on their first trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness! Spirits were high and we could feel a sense of excitement in the air (and a drizzle of rain)!

Each cabin group is going on a two-night/three-day trip (returning Friday afternoon) together to bond as a cabin group. Read more about each cabin trip and follow their group throughout the wilderness via their satellite pings!

AVANT CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Wilderness Camp Counselors, Hemi (right), and Ghost (left).

The young Avant adventurers will be enjoying a scenic paddle into the big Lake Saganaga. Today, they’re paddling toward Blueberry Island to spend the afternoon playing games and exploring. They plan to spend the next two days island hopping, which there is no shortage of on Saganaga.

RAVEN CABIN

This trip is led by co-counselors Remy (left) and Duke (right).

Raven Cabin is also paddling into the mighty Lake Saganaga for a fishing adventure! These gents plan to visit Sag Falls and camp at Horseshoe Island. Wish them good fishing!

FAR AND AWAY CABIN

These adventurers are led by rock-climbing counselors Flash (left) and Veto (right)!

This group is headed to Seagull Lake to do a bit of rock climbing at Little Palisades. They’ve already secured our favorite campsite on Seagull Lake, close to the climbing site.

BEAR CABIN

Team Bear is led by co-counselors Hero (left) and Frosty (right)!

The Bear boys are paddling the Alpine Loop, which is a Birchwood classic! You can do this trip in roughly 8 hours but these boys are taking a leisurely pace so they can enjoy the scenery.

SHANG CABIN

The Shang crew is taking on a new-to-Birchwood trip down a creek called Larch Creek, which feeds into the Granite River that will take them back to camp on Friday. We can’t wait to hear about their expedition!

SUMMIT CABIN

Our senior leaders are guided by counselors Nacho (left) and Ocho (right).

These gents are headed down the Gunflint Trail to the Superior Hiking Trail where they will hike a 30-mile stretch of trail from the Cascade River to Pincushion Mountain. Our senior campers were given the freedom to choose any length of the Superior Hiking Trail for their first trip and they’ve really set their sights high! Kudos to them!
