This morning, our first campers of the last four-week summer session put canoes in the Seagull River and paddled off on their first trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness! Spirits were high and we could feel a sense of excitement in the air!

Each cabin group is going on a two-night/three-day trip (returning Friday afternoon) together to bond as a cabin group. Read more about each cabin trip and follow their group throughout the wilderness via their satellite pings!

TOULES CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Wilderness Camp Counselors, Teddy aka Camilo (right) and Buggs aka Nicolás (left).

The young Toules adventurers will be enjoying a scenic paddle into our very own Gulf and Romance lakes after hiking to the north end of Birchwood’s property. After enjoying a day of paddling, they will camp in our brand new canvas wall tent that sits permanently on Migizi Ridge, a twenty-minute hike from camp. From there, they will base camp!

AVANT CABIN

This trip is led by Birchwood Counselor, Ghost aka Ian (left) and co-counselor, The Duke aka Wyatt (right).

These boys are going to paddle into Sagananga Lake to shop around for the perfect blueberry patches, do some base camping, and perhaps check out Sag Falls. Berries, base camping, and waterfalls – the essence of summer fun!

RAVEN CABIN

This trip is led by co-counselors Gatsby aka Dylan (back left) and Scooby aka Angel (back right).

Raven is also heading into Saganaga but these gents intend to head deep into Red Rocks Bay! It is possible that they might even complete the full Alpine Loop.

FAR AND AWAY + BEAR CABIN

These adventurers are led by co-counselors Nacho aka Jack (back fifth from left) and Wiki aka John (back fourth from right)!

Far and Away + Bear cabins have united to hike a section of the Superior Hiking Trail! The section they’ve set their sights on stretches from Judge C.R. Magney State Park to the little town of Grand Marais. Wish them luck!

SHANG CABIN

Team Shang is led by veteran counselor Flash aka Dan (second from right)!

The Shang boys will be enjoying a scenic paddle deep into the infamous Seagull Lake to climb the Little Palisades. If you’ve never heard of the Little Palisades, take a look at the photo below! This photo was taken from the top of Little Palisades. This is a spot we frequently rock-climb, hike, and lunch with campers throughout the summer.

SUMMIT CABIN

Our senior leaders are guided by veteran counselor Casio aka Jacob for their very first trip together!

These gents are focused on paddling north into Lake Saganaga with a very elusive mission! They are attempting to portage into the mysterious Party Lake. They will base their mission at a campsite near American Point. Let’s wish them luck!
