Collective years at Birchwood
After five years as a mechanical engineer in Florida, Ashley decided to quit her job and move to Birchwood for one winter before finding another engineering job in Minnesota. The one winter she spent at camp was all it took to change career paths, become the co-owner of Birchwood, and live on the property year-round with her dad, Dan. She has loved writing all her life and enjoys writing about the benefits and fullness of a life lived outdoors!

After teaching high school shop for 31, Dan is back in the family business his parents started when he was three years old. He enjoys writing our feature segment called "Where Are They Now?" in which he interviews alumni and gets to the heart of what Birchwood has meant to so many of our campers through their adult years.

Our goal is to equip and educate every camper so that he/she can plan his/her own outdoor adventures. But that mission doesn't have to stop when the summer does! We aim for our blog to be a continuing resource covering everything from route planning to gear to cooking. Whether you're a camper or not, we hope you'll find our resources useful.
Not only do we strive to communicate with you online, we also do our best to highlight events and activities in the midwest (especially Minnesota) for you and your family to take advantage of.
