Can you believe it?! We’re already sending out the last trips of the summer and, WOW, we’ve got some good ones!
The first trip left on Sunday and the last trips left this morning (Wednesday). Everybody will return on Friday afternoon to share their tales from the trails but we won’t leave you hanging that long! Keep reading to discover which adventures our Birchwood boys have set out for this week.
The Grand Portage – 6 DAY
This grand adventure is lead by Birchwood counselor, Casio aka Jacob (right).
Our ambitious Senior Leadership campers planed an extra special “Senior Trip” to close out their summer! They chose a trip that has not been done by a Birchwood camper in the last five years – THE GRAND PORTAGE! This is a big deal not only here at Birchwood but in Minnesota. To do the Grand Portage means that you’ve portaged your gear and canoe 9 miles, ending at Lake Superior.
The Grand Portage alone is a feat but these gentlemen aren’t just starting at the entrance of The Grand…they started at Camp at 2am Sunday, which means they have about 9 miles of portaging and many miles of paddling just to get to the Grand Portage!
These boys are in for the biggest adventure of the summer and we could not be more proud of them! If you want to learn more about The Grand Portage, do a quick Google search for more fun insight on this historical route.

North Shore Climbing – 5 DAY
This trip is lead by counselors Archie aka McRae (back center), Nacho aka Jack (not pictured), and DaVinci aka Zach (not pictured).
A Birchwood favorite, the North Shore Climbing Trip is unlike any other trip! This group is in for 5 days of climbing the cliffs that stand directly over Lake Superior and base camping at a nearby campground. This trip is popular for the world-renowned rock-climbing AND the big meals cooked in the dutch oven.

This trip is lead by co-counselors Goven’or aka John (center) and Divo aka Kiyan (not pictured).
This small and swift group is embarking on a 5-day paddling trip starting at Duncan Lake and ending at Birchwood! They’ll experience the famed Stairway Portage, the renowned Rose Lake, and even cross paths with our Senior Leadership trip before riding the Granite River back to Birchwood.
